 ELEMENTARY SCHOOL CLASSES

 

    Students will be in a classroom with a home teacher.  You may select from the following courses to be taught by your home teacher: Math, English, Social Studies, & Science.  You can enroll in any electives in addition to the core instruction. Some students may come to HCA just for electives.  
    Core instruction classes are separated by grade level, however may be combined depending on enrollment.  Electives are combined into groups.
    Elective schedule is as follows:
    Monday - Spanish
    Tuesday - Sewing / Home Ec
    Wednesday - Art
    Thursday - Music
    Friday - Gym

     OUR TUTORS

    Amy Hunter, our preK and K tutor, has a Bachelors of Science in Social Work from Longwood University. She has been teaching Pre-Kindergarten and Junior Kindergarten in the Richmond/ Hanover area for 25 plus years. In addition; she has taught the Ready, Set , Read! (a reading readiness program based on UVA’s Pals Assessment program) for six years. This summer, Amy developed a Reading Readiness Enrichment class out of her home called Bookworms. Her goal in the classroom is to bring your child to his/her highest level of readiness for their next grade level. Amy enjoys traveling; gardening; spending time with her family and of course TEACHING.

    Jenna Brooks, our 2nd and 3rd grade tutor, has a Bachelor of Science degree in Social Sciences from VCU. She loves working with children of all ages, and has classroom

    experience working in several different settings. She has worked with children in special education for Henrico County Public Schools, as well as experience substitute teaching and tutoring as well. She is currently a licensed real estate agent who works alongside her husband helping out with creative marketing and coordinating transactions. She enjoys staying active and involved in her community, the Mechanicsville area. She has two children: a daughter in 4th grade and a son in 5th grade.

    Amy O'Brien, our Home Ec/ Sewing tutor, graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University's Honors College with     a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education in 2011. She worked as an Elementary teacher at Tuckahoe Montessori school until 2014 when she opened her own sewing school, Sew Fun, where she teaches sewing to children and adults with a primary focus on apparel. You can learn more about that business and see pictures at www.sewfunva.com. She also runs the administrative/website work of her husband's business, Academy of Kung Fu. She has been teaching the children's Kung Fu program at his school since 2011. She has also taught sewing and Kung Fu at many schools in the area including Collegiate, Sabot, and Tuckahoe Montessori.

     Hadassah Carter, our Student Ministries Leader, is a Licensed Realtor in the State of Virginia since 2001. She and her husband Frank taught Sunday School for 10 years at Grace Community Baptist Church! Their Son Frank W. Carter, III is now 32 years old. Hadassah is also a Certified First-Degree Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do.

    Hadassah is volunteering to come in each morning and lead the morning devotional. She is a true Christian, walks the walk and talks the talk and I’m honored that she will be bringing Bible studies to the children of HCA.

    Hadassah has 4 Bibles Verses that she has implemented for her life: "For GOD so loved the World that HE gave HIS only begotten SON (JESUS), that WHOSOEVER believeth in HIM should not perish, BUT have EVERLASTING LIFE." “For God sent not His Son into the World to condemn the World, but that the World through Him might be Saved.” John 3:16-17

    “For WHOSOEVER shall call upon the name of the LORD, shall be SAVED." Rom. 10:13 And,

    “I can do all things through Christ Who strengthens me.” Philippians 10:13

     Sarah Via, our Gym/ PE and Spanish tutor, was born and raised in Hanover County. She graduated from Virginia Commonwealth University with a double major in Criminal Law

    and Political Science. Later she earned her Master of Arts in Secondary Education in Social Studies. She currently lives in the Cold Harbor District and works in the mortgage industry in addition to running a sporting clays range.

    She is certified to teach Yoga, Pilates, Barre, Spinning, BodyPump, and Aerobics. She has trained for and ran in many half marathons. She is married to Justin Via and mother to two children, Trevor & Naomi. She will be homeschooling her daughter this year for the first time. Like most faithful Christians, Sarah believes common-sense & God need to return to the classroom and become the foundation of our children’s education.
